Bachuma is therefore the natural entry for many coast itineraries, while Voi may place the vehicle better for a particular lodge or onward route. A Diani start adds the south-coast crossing or bypass route before the A109. A Watamu or Malindi start comes from the north and may make Sala Gate sensible for northern East. Do not label all coast departures Mombasa. The correct town and gate can save hours.
